What is Linux?
Linux, pronounced lin-ux (not line-ux), is an open source operating system first created by Linus Torvalds in the early 1990's. Nowadays there are more than 450 distributions available based on the original kernal. Usually a desktop environment such as Gnome or KDE is used.
